With success ‘The Scientific Event, along with the Cutting of the New Year’s Cake for 2025’ of the Greek Union for the Treatment of MS in Western Hellas (EEASKP), was successfully held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the warm and welcoming venue of the entertainment center “Lido” in Patras.
A large number of members, friends, and distinguished guests attended, including representatives of the Church and the State.
The event began with a welcome from the event coordinator, journalist Ms. Maria Siorokou, followed by the Cake Cutting ceremony, accompanied by the blessing and wishes of the representative of the Holy Metropolis of Patras, Father Theoklitos Pantelidis.
Next, the president of the association, Ms. Margarita Karagiorgou, delivered a speech where she informed the guests about the association’s activities and objectives. Among other things, the president emphasized: “At EEASKP, we proclaim everywhere that we will continue to resist this scourge that aims to destroy us. I will repeat the same statement every year: We are not offered for social euthanasia! The daily pleas of our members and all individuals with MS in Greece fuel our indignation, persistence, resilience, strength, and hope that in the end, we will succeed—fighting and united for our dignified livelihood!”
The president invited attendees to unite with true and compassionate love to move forward in life with dignity, expressing gratitude for their presence and support for the association’s volunteer work. She also personally thanked each member of the Board of Directors.
Following that, greetings and wishes were offered by representatives of state authorities, including the Deputy Governor and President of the Medical Association of Patras, Ms. Anna Mastorakou. A message from the Deputy Governor, Mr. Charalambos Bonanos, who was absent due to prior commitments, was read, while the Deputy Mayor of Health and Welfare of the Municipality of Patras, Ms. Vivian Samouri, also extended her greetings.
The event was further honored with greetings from representatives of various organizations, including the President of “Alma Zois,” Ms. Angeliki Stefanaki; the President of the “Volunteer Group Against Cancer – Agaliazo,” Ms. Lamprini Papachrysanthaki; the President of the “Association of Rheumatic Patients of Patras – ELEANA,” Ms. Mahi Salamaki; the President of “IFNE Achaia,” Ms. Liana Ivantsik; the representative of “Inner Wheel North Rio,” Ms. Sofia Pouli; the Director of the Dental Department of the General Hospital of Patras “Agios Andreas,” Ms. Sissy Avgerinou; the President of the “Regional Federation of Disabled Persons,” Mr. Antonis Harokopos; and Mr. Makis Koulouris, representing the political organization “Spiral.”
The event continued with a brief greeting from Assistant Professor of General Medicine, Director of the Laboratory of Primary Healthcare, and Director of the MSc program “Health Education” at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Patras, Mr. Panagiotis Plotas. The keynote speech of the event followed, presented by Neurologist MD, MSc, Associate of the University Neurology Clinic at the University General Hospital of Patras, Ms. Eirini Tsiamaki, on the topic: “Model Management of Patients with Multiple Sclerosis.”
During the event, coffee and sweets were offered, and the evening concluded with a light dinner accompanied by wine and soft drinks, complemented by songs performed by Sotiris Terlesis and his music group.
The event was graciously sponsored by the pharmaceutical company ‘Roche’. It was also held under the auspices of the Regional Federation of Disabled Persons of Western Greece & the Southern Ionian Islands (POMAmeA) and the Region of Western Greece, with the support of the Municipality of Patras.
The Board of Directors extends heartfelt thanks to the pastry shop “Achaiko Edelweiss” and Mr. Giannis Michalopoulos for donating the New Year’s Cake, as well as for extending good wishes to attendees for the new year. Appreciation is also expressed for contributions and raffle gifts from Mr. Fotis Katraouras (a beautiful watch), RANIA TOURS (a travel package), ‘InterMedia Knowledge Transfer’ and its director Mr. Panagiotis Antonopoulos (video coverage of the event), the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) of the University of Patras, Panagiotis Pirpiris Medical-Orthopedic Supplies (a gift voucher), and artist Ms. Sofia Pouli (a painting donation).
All these donations became prizes in the association’s raffle, aimed at supporting EEASKP.
Finally, the Board congratulates the management of the “Lido” entertainment center for the impeccable service provided to the guests.
