Event Summary: On the occasion of World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Day, observed annually on May 30, members and friends of the association Hellenic Union for the Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis of Western Greece – EEASKP gathered last night outside the Municipal Theater “Apollon”, which was illuminated with the association’s colors to mark the day’s message. The event aimed to inform and raise awareness about people living with MS, especially in the city of Patras and the wider Western Greece region. Present at the gathering were Mr. Antonis Harokopos, President of the Regional Federation of People with Disabilitiesof Westarn Greece. & South Ionian Islands (POMAMEA), and Ms. Eleftheria Theodoropoulou, Secretary of the Rheumatic Patients Association of Achaia “ELEANA.”

In 2024, World MS Day is being celebrated for the 16th time globally, and the theme this year focuses on diagnosis, particularly early diagnosis. The campaign is titled “My MS Diagnosis”, with the tagline “Navigating MS Together”. It aims to promote early and accurate diagnosis for all individuals affected by MS, emphasizing global barriers to diagnosis and increasing awareness through real stories and data. The campaign advocates for better MS education for healthcare professionals, new research, and advancements in clinical diagnostics. Together, we build informed communities and support systems that empower people diagnosed with MS.

MS is not a contagious or hereditary disease, nor is it fatal or a psychiatric disorder. People with MS should be empowered to approach their new reality with realism and adaptability. It is vital to unite within the association, where mutual support strengthens the fight—because “we win when we stand together.”

The event was held under the auspices of POMAMEA and was supported by the Municipality of Patras, to whom we extend our gratitude.

We also invite you to attend the Scientific Conference scheduled for Monday, June 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the “My Way Hotel & Events” (Othonos Amalias 16, Patras). Esteemed experts will be speaking:

  • Ms. Eirini Tsiamaki, Neurologist, who will present insights on MS from past, present, and future perspectives.
  • Mr. Konstantinos Giannitsas, Urologist, who will discuss urinary management in MS.

Sincerely, The Board of Directors
